Sock Knitting for Beginners
Ever wanted to knit socks, but too worried about turning the heel and all those other weird sounding terms? We will explain them in a simple, easy to understand way, so you can enjoy making your own socks. Socks make a great holiday project as they are compact and not big enough to get you all hot and bothered like a big item. Socks are wonderful to wear and make fabulous gifts (especially for those awkward great uncles that you never know what to get!) We include a ball of Knitcol dk, merino colour-change yarn, double pointed needles and the patterns. We will make a toddler sizes sock in the workshop se we can fit all the techniques in. You need to be confident with knit stitch and basic shaping. Materials included.

Double Knitting with the Sockmatician
We are absolutely delighted that Nathan Taylor aka ‘The Sockmatician’ is coming back to Craft Days! We had a fabulous workshop with him earlier in the year and had to disappoint many of you as it filled up so quickly. Now is your chance to try the technique of Double Knitting for yourself!
Double Knitting is worked using two colours and you end up with a double thick fabric with the pattern worked in the reverse colours on the other side e.g. if you create a pink heart on a white background, the other side will have a white heart on a pink background and the two sides will be connected. During the workshop you will make a coaster and you will need to bring about 20g each of 2 colours of dk yarn and size 3.75mm and 4mm needles. (Your tension may be different from normal). You need to be confident with knitting stocking stitch and it is a good idea to practice the ‘two colour long tail cast on’ before the class! (See Nathan’s YouTube video)
Nathan is great fun and a brilliant teacher. He was leaping around making sure everybody was happy. He posts a popular knitting blog and is determined to teach everybody Double Knitting, one knitter at a time! We will also be running an Advanced Workshop on Saturday November 4th.

Intarsia and Duplicate Stitch
Intarsia is one of the most satisfying ways of knitting with colour. Once mastered the creative possibilities are as endless as your imagination! It is perfect for Christmas jumpers, but also for many other projects as well. We will work a sample square with a ‘festive’ design (good practice) using the intarsia method and then add more detail using Swiss Darning (Duplicate Stitch). By the end of the workshop you will be ready to tackle the ultimate festive garment! Materials included.

Dame Hilary and Helpers: Easy felting
: Learn how to do felting the easy way.
Felt is ideal for bags, cosy slippers, table mats
Knit a tension square. Felt it by sticking it in the washing machine at 40 or 60 degrees and see how much it shrinks. It’s a great way to use up loads of yarn! (although not all of it felts)
On this course you’ll learn how to choose suitable yarn, work out patterns and have loads of fun.
Bring 10mm needles if you can find them (don’t worry we have some in stock). Techniques to make slippers, matts or bags.

Beginners Knitting (4 weeks)
Knitting is one of those crafts that does so much more than ‘it says on the tin’! Apart from being totally absorbing, creative and most importantly, enjoyable, it is good for mind, body and soul! It’s not just me saying that, it has been scientifically tested and proven! (see www.stitchlinks.com for more information) Knitting helps you to relax, helps lower blood pressure and helps restore confidence amongst other things. What’s even better, is that you get something really beautiful at the end of the process. On our beginner’s course you will learn how to cast on, cast off, knit, purl, do cables, do button holes, knit ‘in the round’ and much more. We make a different project each week, so by the time you have finished you will have made a flower brooch, a felted gadget purse, a cabled cowl and a hat. Each week we add to the skills you have learnt and by the end you will be confident enough to tackle different projects. All yarns, needles and patterns are included.
