Commit To Knit 2019

We have recently launched our Commit To Knit campaign for 2019

Across the UK, many charities need knitted items to sell to raise much needed funds, to highlight campaigns or raise awareness. The idea behind Commit To Knit is simple, just knit or crochet one item for your favourite charity during September.

The focus for this year’s campaign is to support yarn shops nationwide. “This year we want yarn shops to get involved by hosting a Commit To Knit day in store, and we are currently developing downloadable packs for those wanting to take part,” explains Annabelle Hill, Chair of UK Hand Knitting’s Promotions Committee. “There will also be a giveaway of 10 hampers packed full of yarn, needles and patterns for customers of participating stores to enter.”

There are also 10 Taster Kits for yarn shops to win and UK Hand Knitting will be asking crafters to nominate their favourite yarn shop during August.

We are particularly asking crafters to make hats for the homeless and refugees, which will be offered to Crisis, The Salvation Army and St Mungo’s.  The Wherever I Lay My Hat campaign will run until Christmas giving crafters plenty of time to make a hat or even two. Details of where to send completed hats will be available across social media and the UK Hand Knitting newsletter during September.  Hats can also be dropped off at The Knitting and Stitching shows at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate, as well as Yarndale.

The UK Hand Knitting website has a list of charities that accept knitted items as well as lots of free patterns to download with more patterns being uploaded for this year’s campaign all the time.
